Seed to Sweater

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

Since starting Hook & Light, we have been amazed by the wide array and abundance of beautif

ul colours that nature can achieve. This refound love of nature inspired us to begin our allotment journey, where we now grow many of our own dye materials along with organic fruit and veg. This year we would like to bring you along with us on our natural dye journey, from the planting of the first seeds all the way to wearing your cosy handknit (or crocheted!) jumper this winter.

We will be documenting each stage from Seed to Sweater online on our instagram page and website to give you a behind the scenes look into the natural dye process. So that you too can grow, dye and knit your way from a tiny seed to a beautiful naturally dyed sweater, our Seed to Sweater initiative will run throughout the year with a grow-along in the spring and summer, dye-along in autumn and of course culminating in a winter knit-along!

Get involved by using the hashtag #seedtosweater and tagging @hookandlight to document your own progress, everyone is welcome to join in, whether you have an allotment, garden, or even just a windosill, to create a community of natural dye support, inspiration and joy. For each stage we will be using the hashtag to select winners of some lovely gifts, not that you need another reason to plant natural dye happiness in your life! To help get you started we will be offering kits for each stage of the Seed to Sweater initiative, starting with everything you need to plant your natural dye seeds!

We have found gardening, dyeing and of course knitting and crochet to be welcome escapes from the stresses of daily life, something which is now more important than ever. Our goal is to create a community in which to share and explore the process of natural dyes, as well as bringing people closer together to create a support network based on the excitement and appreciation of the natural world through these trying times.

Follow us on instagram or sign up for our mailing list to stay up to date on the latest information. We can’t wait to start this exciting journey together.
